I know it's still 2009, but I've started to ponder 2010. Specifically, book challenges in 2010.
I think I might not do any.
It's scary, saying that, because I love book challenges. I love reading something new, something in a genre I don't normally read, something I've never heard of before... but I never seem to complete them. Looking at my sideboard, I can see that I have finished one challenge, and only one. I didn't even start the challenge I made for myself!
So yeah, I'm thinking next year, I'm not going to do any reading challenges. I'll just track what I read and go from there.

I hardly ever do any. I love the idea of them and there are some great ones. But actually doing them? I suck at it.
Exactly; there are some really great challenges, ones that force me to read outside of my normal ranges, but I'm horrible at finishing them. I haven't quite worked out what I'm going to do yet, but I'm really leaning towards not doing any, just reading about the ones I find interesting, maybe finding new books that way.
I doubt I will do many either. If I do I prefer ones that last a short time instead of ones that last the whole year...
Kailana,
Shorter challenges are a good idea; I find it's easier to stay with them if they only run for a month or two.
I have been thinking along the same lines for next year, in terms of much more limited challenge participation. I am always challenge-greedy at the outset, but then the fact that I am so behind in all my challenges becomes more of a source of stress and guilt than pleasure. Sigh. And right now just getting back into the swing of blogging after a LONG absence from it is my personal challenge. So I am with you!
I agree, I end up feeing pressured to read something because I "have to" and not necessarily because I want to.
Hmm, maybe we should start a no-challenge challenge? =)
